TV, Book, Movie and Podcast Roundup – Summer 2019

Welcome to September! Because there’s not enough useless information floating around on the internet, I thought I would update readers of this blog as to what I’ve watched/read over the previous month, each month, in the form of TV, movies and books.

Some of this I will have reviewed on the blog but others I’ve just been watching for enjoyment with Mrs Black. This edition covers both July and August collectively.

Let’s start this month with TV…

New Podcast Guest Appearance: The Projection Booth #423 – Annihilation

Having last appeared earlier this year discussing Big Trouble in Little China, it was a real thrill to reappear on The Projection Booth again this week, talking Alex Garland’s 2018 sci-fi chiller Annihilation.

I’ve gone on record before in saying how much I consider Mike White’s podcast to be the premier film podcast online; amidst a sea of great shows, Mike’s forensic examination of cult and classic movies, not to mention incredible interviews with cast and crews of said films, is unparalleled.

It was terrific going back to Annihilation. As a huge fan of Jeff Vandermeer’s chilling book of the same name, I found the Natalie Portman-starring film underwhelming on first watch but I got so much more out of it second time around, and it led to what I think is my strongest appearance on TPB so far – certainly the one where I have the best audio quality on my end I think!
