New Podcast: BETWEEN THE NOTES – ‘From Batman to Tenet: The Music of Christopher Nolan’

It’s been a while since I linked to any podcasts on here but I need to start getting back into the habit, as I’m recording so much these days, particularly whilst working from home.

I’ve been delighted to kickstart back into gear Between the Notes, my film music podcast co-hosted with my pal Sean Wilson. He’s the real brains behind the outfit, an absolute font of film music knowledge who can contextualise a piece of score effortlessly, and he does so here once again in our discussion of the film music of Christopher Nolan in advance of Tenet, and we also touch base on our lockdown experiences and post-Covid cinema & what that might look like.

You can find direct Spreaker and Spotify links after the jump, plus a way to subscribe on Apple Podcasts. We’ll be back doing these for a while so we hope you join us!

New Podcast: PICK A DISC – ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood Official Soundtrack’

Hosted by Matt Latham, Pick A Disc is part of the We Made This podcast network and sees a guest choose an album of music which they come on to the show and discuss.

Latham–a very old friend of mine, first from the online and eventually the real world–was gracious enough to invite me back on to discuss the soundtrack to Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which I got on vinyl for Christmas.

This was a fun discussion, in Latham’s nice living room, about 60’s music, the cultural impact, Tarantino, movie soundtracks and more!

And yes, that *is* a fact…

New Podcast: STREAMING WARS #2 – ‘The Witcher / Doctor Who / Dracula’

Welcome to my newest podcast on wemadethispod.com… the STREAMING WARS podcast!

I’ve wanted to put together a TV podcast for a while now given we’re entering an exciting age of streaming service rivalry and a bevy of TV every single month. There is always something to talk about, so every fortnight or three weeks with a new guest, I’ll be doing just that.

For this latest episode, I’m joined by Luke Winch to talk a cluster of new shows – Dracula, Doctor Who, The Witcher, Lost in Space, Doom Patrol and many more…

New Podcast: MOTION PICTURES #7 – ‘The Heroes Journey’ (Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker)

Merry Christmas!

It’s the latest episode of my podcast about cinema with my friend and podcast buddy, Carl Sweeney.

Motion Pictures is designed to be more of an informal, free-flowing chat about movies, geared around a topic of the week. There will also be choice episodes around an idea, whatever takes our fancy really! It’s an exciting project.

In this episode, we discuss the biggest cinematic release of 2019 – Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker.

With the recent release of the concluding chapter, George Lucas’ original story of the Skywalker family comes to an end after 42 years of twists and turns, prequels and sequels, and a complete transformation of Hollywood and cinema around it.

We talk about the saga, our own experiences with it growing up in the wake of the original trilogy, and how The Rise of Skywalker brings it all to an end, but we’re also going to look at the myth-making behind Star Wars as a whole and how much the Campbellian ‘heroes journey’ has influenced fiction as a whole…

This episode sees me host alongside the show’s recurring guest, Darren Mooney, as we talk about the beautiful, elegiac Christmas episode Midnight of the Century. A great final episode with Darren for the year…

Hosted by myself alongside regular guests, Make It So: A Star Trek Picard Podcast is a series devoted to the upcoming CBS All Access series Star Trek: Picard, delving into each episode and exploring the show when on the air.

In this episode, I’m joined by The Time Is Now‘s Kurt North to discuss the newly released IDW Publishing comic Star Trek: Picard Countdown #2, the second in a three-part prequel comic series written by Mike Johnson & Kirsten Beyer which tells the story of Jean Luc-Picard’s time as an Admiral during the Romulan supernova crisis, almost 15 years before Star Trek: Picard.

We also discuss our excitement for the new show with it just five short weeks away…

New Podcast: STREAMING WARS #1 – ‘Watchmen / His Dark Materials / V-Wars’

Welcome to my newest podcast on wemadethispod.com… the STREAMING WARS podcast!

I’ve wanted to put together a TV podcast for a while now given we’re entering an exciting age of streaming service rivalry and a bevy of TV every single month. There is always something to talk about, so every fortnight or three weeks with a new guest, I’ll be doing just that.

For this opening episode, I’m joined by Wynter Tyson, who last appeared with me on the Years and Years podcast earlier this year, to talk a cluster of new shows – Watchmen, His Dark Materials, V-Wars, plus Elizabeth Is Missing, The Marvelous Mrs Maisel, Vikings and more…
