The popularity of sports utility vehicles sees no slowing down, and automaker Hyundai has done a solid job making their two-row 2023 Santa Fe a standout amongst the pack.

This SUV’s exterior design flaunts Hyundai’s signature grille, plus thin LED headlights, tail lights, and daytime running lights all providing both style and enhanced visibility. The power folding heated side mirrors with turn signal indicators, and curvaceous frame further add to the attractiveness and functionality.

Considering that there are numerous trims to incrementally take the Santa Fe to the next level including the SEL, XRT, and Limited, the reviewed, top-of-the-line Calligraphy still maintains a great value while generously pampering owners. While the standard version comes with a plethora of features, including wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto; Bluetooth; and a quartet of USB ports to name a few, the Calligraphy impressively answers the demands of true luxury seekers. Passengers will appreciate the quilted Nappa leather seating, faux-suede appointments, and panoramic sunroof for optimal sky gazing and open feel. Other enhancements include 20-inch wheels, a head-up display, roof side rails, keyless entry, ambient lighting, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, and theateresque 12-speaker Harman Kardon premium sound system.

Addressing performance, the turbocharged 2.5-liter engine flexes 281 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque operated by an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The all-wheel drive component is highly recommended for excellent mobility and maneuvering, whether it’s a quick trip to the store or excursions across the country. Towing tops out at 3,500 pounds, while cargo space is sufficient, measuring approximately 36 cubic feet and about 72 with the second-row seats folded.

Hyundai is renowned for their mind-easing warranties, including a 5-year/60,000-mile New Vehicle Warranty and a robust 10-year/100,000-mile Powertrain Warranty. Safety is also a priority, featuring advanced technology like forward collision-avoidance assist, rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance assist, and parking collision-avoidance assist whether going forward or reverse. The inclusion of multiple airbags throughout the cabin, plus highway driving assist, high beam assist, and a surround view monitor all add an extra layer of security when—or off—the road.

Arguably, Santa Fe Calligraphy’s most attractive draw is its value priced at $43,750 fully equipped, resulting in a well-rounded package delivering practicality, luxury, and value for the win.

The Dodge Hornet is a compact utility vehicle that offers 268 horsepower and 295 lb.-ft. of torque, a nine-speed automatic transmission, sporty suspension, and all-wheel drive maneuverability.

Dodge just introduced the Hornet—which they classify as a compact-utility vehicle (CUV)—this year, and it flaunts the look and feel of a performance car the automaker has become renowned for, including a bicep-flexing powertrain and exterior to back it up. (For those familiar with Alfa Romeo, the Hornet shares the same suspension and many other parts with their Tonale.)

The GT version I reviewed had a welcomed stealthy look in “8-Ball” black, including the 18-inch wheels with the Abyss finish to accentuate their luster, a “mail-slot” style grille, noticeable heat extractors on the hood, and introduction of the vehicle-width taillamp.

A Track Pack package for the Dodge Hornet, offering the most performance-oriented configuration, is available for both the GT and R/T and upgrades to 20-inch Abyss wheels and red Brembo brake calipers. Photo Courtesy of Dodge

The heart is a peppy 2.0-liter 14 DOHC Hurricane 4 engine that delivers 268 horsepower and 295 lb.-ft. of torque, which is truly impressive for a four-cylinder vehicle. The nine-speed automatic transmission, sporty suspension, all-speed traction control, Koni shocks, Brembo four-piston brake calipers, and all-wheel drive maneuverability further enhance the driving experience.

The interior material quality is not extravagant, but gets the job done to keep the pricing from getting out of hand with the seating being a cloth and leatherette combination. However, the driver will appreciate the cockpit-like setup, with a user-friendly 12.3-inch digital cluster screen and 10.25-inch display for optimal visibility. The Uconnect 5 infotainment system has a generous roster of applications coming standard, including wireless Android Auto and CarPlay connectivity, plus the Amazon Alexa virtual assistant. The Hornet’s sound is a lot more than a buzz, thanks to the Harman Kardon 465-watt premium system blessing 14 speakers and a subwoofer. To ease the mind regarding safety, the Hornet has driver attention assist, intelligent speed assist with traffic sign recognition, and intelligent adaptive cruise control to name a few.

The front of the 2023 Dodge Hornet GT incorporates a “mail slot”-style grille opening sculpted into the fascia, reinforcing the horizontal brow of the upper grille and lamp graphics – creating a serious, all-business demeanor. Photo Courtesy of Dodge

Dodge has steadily developed a dedicated fanbase who share the need for speed via it’s “Brotherhood of Muscle” legion of products, including the Dodge Challenger, Dodge Charger and Dodge Durango, not to mention their road-terrorizing SRT Hellcat versions. The Hornet seamlessly becomes a family member. Representing the CUV segment, it has a promising future coming with more trims, power enhancements, and addressing green initiatives, including their hybrid-electric 2024 Dodge Hornet R/T.

Ultimately, Doge pounds their chests exclaiming that the Hornet is the ”quickest, fastest, most powerful compact utility vehicle under $30,000,” which delivers a significant sting to any competitors it may have.

The strategic part about considering a car during the end of the year is reaping the benefits of great discounts to make room for next year’s models. In the compact SUV segment, we found the 2023 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid XSE AWD and Lexus NX 350h Luxury AWD very impressive.

The Toyota RAV4 trim already has a legion of loyalists thanks to setting high standards in the market for quality, reliability, and great value. The exterior frame provides an applauded rugged look going along with LED projector headlights, a power liftgate, roof rack, and attractive 18-inch sport alloy wheels hued in a stealthy black paint to make this practical SUV not look, well, practical.

Addressing the driving experience, the hybrid option delivers a smooth ride with a more-than-adequate pep at 219 horsepower coupled with seamless electronic continuous variable transmission (ECVT) acceleration from its 2.5-liter, four-cylinder engine, and still gets an average 40 combined miles per gallon. If we had to nitpick, the cabin could be a bit more plush in terms of material quality, but that is what the following Lexus SUV specializes in. This XSE is about value, convenience, and providing the best bang for the buck complete with less gas station visits. In the end, the $40K price tag fully loaded greatly outweighs any minor detractions. In summary, the RAV4 XSE is a winner.

The exterior still embraces Lexus’ black, hourglass-shaped grille proudly touting its brand complemented with slanted bi-LED lights, blade taillamp, extended spoiler, and roof rails while sitting on 20-inch wheels. The overall sporty styling hints there is power under the hood, and the 2.5-liter hybrid engine backs that up with 240 horses ready to hit the streets, going from 0 to 60 in approximately a decent 7.2 seconds.

Street Lines: Discover the future of driving with Nissan’s 2023 electric cars https://theatlantavoice.com/street-lines-discover-the-future-of-driving-with-nissans-2023-electric-cars/ Fri, 10 Nov 2023 01:00:02 +0000 https://theatlantavoice.com/?p=133450

Nissan has introduced the 2023 Leaf SV Plus and Ariya crossover, both all-electric vehicles with increased range, power, and technology, with the Leaf SV Plus offering a great value and the Ariya Platinum+ providing a premium experience.

The post Street Lines: Discover the future of driving with Nissan’s 2023 electric cars appeared first on The Atlanta Voice.

Two of Nissan’s all-electric vehicles, the Leaf SV Plus and all-new Ariya crossover, make 2023 a fun year to plug in.

2023 Nissan Leaf SV Plus

Going all-electric is the future of the auto industry due to the cutting of emissions, the convenience to plug in overnight, the fun driving experience including instant torque, and saving money on numerous maintenance costs to name a few reasons. Nissan has made great efforts in this sector, providing upgrades to their popular Leaf line, and introduction of the stylish Ariya crossover in 2023.

The 2023 Nissan Leaf is now solely in two trims—the S and SV Plus—and we had the honor of reviewing the latter. The exterior’s alterations to this year’s model are attractive, including welcomed modifications to the grille, LED headlights, and both fascia wind deflectors in black, while sitting on five-spoke, 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels to upgrade the cool factor. The major difference is the battery size, with the SV Plus hosting a 60-kWh lithium-ion battery, which adds a significant increase in range of 212 miles on a full charge. Of course, the muscle gets a boost as well, producing an impressive 214 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque. Ultimately, the driving experience was memorable, making smooth transitions through traffic and passing slower automobiles with ease.

Photos courtesy of Nissan

Inside, the SV Plus is comfortable, the cabin is quiet, and the technology for both the driving experience and safety is above par. The driver will certainly appreciate the all-new start-up video that appears on the instrument panel screen; user-friendly controls; ProPILOT Assist with steering assist and intelligent cruise control; e-Pedal mode; Nissan Intelligent Key; NissanConnect EV for remote convenience; and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability. The six-speaker sound system also delivers.

Photos courtesy of Nissan

The signature Nissan Safety Shield 360 provides high beam assist, blind spot warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, rear automatic braking, and a favorite—the intelligent around-view monitor for especially parking ease.

Considering all of these advancements for 2023, including increased driving range, a peppy engine, a sleeker exterior, 109 MPGe average, and plethora of safety applications coming standard make the Leaf’s MSRP price tag asking $36,190 a great value.

2023 Nissan Ariya Platinum+

Nissan kicks in the door in 2023 with the highly anticipated introduction of their first all-electric crossover, the all-new 2023 Nissan Ariya. While the Leaf is all about practicality, convenience, and value, the Ariya presents emphasis in style, power, and technology. Coming in several trims—Venture+, Engage, Engage+, Evolve+, Empower+, Premiere and Platinum+—we reviewed the top-of-the line latter version. Note that the “plus” signifies a larger 87-kWh battery pack to increase driving distance, with the option of two-wheel and four-wheel drive being the other standout difference.

Photos courtesy of Nissan

The Ariya immediately strikes the eye due to its futuristic, curvaceous exterior; our review model was dressed in a highly recommended two-toned “Passion Red Tricoat and Black Diamond Pearl” combination. Showcasing Nissan’s “Timeless Japanese Futurism” approach to their all-electric vehicles, it starts with a newly designed black grille boasting a glowing, 3-D traditional brand logo in the center coupled with thin LED headlights. From the front to the rear, a horizontal line along the side connects them both seamlessly, topped by an all-black roof with a spoiler lip extension at the rear for a sporty feel. The taillights are also connected as one attractive strip to give a modernized, yet stealthy look that’s also appreciated. The optional 20-inch wheels complete the exterior’s captivation.

Under the hood, the aforementioned 87-kWh battery delivers and white-knuckling 389 horsepower and impressive 265-mile range. Optimal maneuverability comes from Nissan’s signature “e-4ORCE” technology, which includes a twin electric motor and all-wheel drive within a 100-percent electric motor drive system.

The interior significantly adds to Ariya’s appeal; the driver is met with Nappa leather seating with temperature control for both rows, wood accents, and a vibrant infotainment display including a 12.3-inch touchscreen and digital gauge cluster. The power panoramic moonroof complete with a full sunshade is perfect for those desiring an airy presence and stargazing view, while the 10-speaker BOSE sound system perfects the mood for any occasion.

The driving technology is generous, with a seemingly countless list of standard appointments, including the Intelligent Around View Monitor (I-AVM); wireless device charging; sliding center console; rear-camera mirror; color head-up display; ProPILOT Assist with Navi-link; dual-zone climate control; and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to name a few. The Amazon Alexa feature provides a personal butler-like experience at the driver’s voice command, plus four USB ports and a Wi-Fi hot spot. The Platinum+ designation also provides Nissan’s renowned ProPILOT Assist 2.0 and ProPILOT Park, plus a hands-free liftgate, a surround-view parking camera system, and rain-sensing windshield wipers. (Please visit Nissan’s HYPERLINK “https://www.nissanusa.com/”website to see the list of safety and technology features in its entirety.)

Owners will not lose sleep thanks to Nissan’s three-year/36,000-mile limited warranty and a five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty. The battery pack gets an eight-year/100,000-mile warranty as well.

Ultimately, Nissan garners another win with the addition to the Ariya in its lineup, a highly recommended SUV with a bright future for the carmaker’s dedication to manufacture more electric vehicles for years to come.

Price: MSRP $60,190 fully equipped in the Platinum+ trim

The 2023 Lexus GX 460 does a solid job combining adequate power, luxury, and innovation, while its off-road ability and generous amount of standard safety equipment makes the transport of multiple passengers a more mind-easing experience.

Normally, the demand for some muscle flexing comes with the territory for anyone considering a midsize SUV.  Under the hood, the 4.6-liter V6 engine packs a decent amount of power—301 horses—paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Although owners will not win any drag races with the GX 460 as expected with this style of automobile, the driving experience is enhanced with four-wheel drive capability for optimal maneuvering, which is ideal to balance out the size of this vehicle and getting in tight parking spaces. The multiple driving modes also deserve accolades, providing confidence for the driver to take on any inclement weather challenges including rain, snow, mud, or rocky terrain. Of course, the adaptive variable suspension also customizes the operator’s driving style.

Photos courtesy of Lexus

This carmaker is no stranger to styling and maintains their influential exteriors with the GX 460, favoring a more muscular approach to encourage fearlessness when on or off the road. The 19-inch dark gray metallic alloy wheels; custom lower grille; and dark gray exhaust tip catches eyes thanks to the Sport Design Package, while the power moonroof with privacy glass, rain-sensing wipers, and power-folding heated outside mirrors provide more adaptation to inclement weather. Triple beam LED lighting and roof rails provide more appreciated embellishments.

Inside, the wood trim complements the high-quality leather seating including temperature controls for the first two rows. Talking tech, the 10.3-inch touchscreen full-color multi-information display is vibrant, making Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Amazon Alexa, navigation, and Bluetooth easy to operate with user-friendly controls (although the touchpad is cumbersome especially during vehicle operation). The Wi-Fi hot spot and quartet of USB ports certainly become resourceful, and the 17-speaker Mark Levinson premium audio system makes it a concert on wheels.

Safety is a big plus, with Lexus providing 10 airbags, brake assist with smart technology, and the Lexus Safety System cocooning everyone in protection. The pre-collision system with pedestrian detection and lane departure alert keeps the driver on point as well.

The fuel efficiency leaves gas proficiency to be desired averaging 16 MPG, but the Luxury trim provides a quality cabin, head-turning looks, and the overall craftsmanship Lexus is known for to make sure every ride is in style for everyone onboard.

Fuel Economy: 17 city/24 highway/20 combined.

Price: $67,080 MSRP/$71,650 as reviewed with the Luxury trim with Off Road and Sport Design packages

The all-new 2023 BMW XM is not just a head-turning luxury hybrid SUV, it’s a technological advancement that redefines their driving experience inside and out. BMW enthusiasts will recognize that this is the first XM in the unveiling of the M-only model since the M1 sports car that launched four decades ago, exclaiming that a new day is here for this automaker.

The entire exterior dressed in BMW’s signature Cape York Green Metallic is space-age level, from the sleek front with illuminated “kidney grille” to the three-dimensional taillights, carbon fiber trim, 23-inch alloy wheels, four-tailpipe exhaust system, and iconic M Sport embellishments.

Addressing muscle, BMW takes this SUV to the next level. The XM’s main engine is supported by an electric motor collectively flexing a powerful 4.4 L M twinpower turbo V8 32-valve engine and is accompanied by an electric motor that can collectively flex 644 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque, plus variable valve control, an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission, and launch control for a rocket-type launch from a standing start. The feel is summarized as a stable, yet very responsive attack on the road tamed by the always welcomed M sport brakes with black calipers for a controlled ride.

When the doors open, luxury does not take the backseat. Eyes are welcomed to the captivating fiber-optic lighting with 100 LEDs illuminating the three-dimensional, prism-textured Alcantara resulting in a cozy, intimate feel. The interior’s cockpit is decorated with a Deep Lagoon/Vantage Coffee Leather pairing, multi-function sport seats with lumbar support, and a massage option to make every excursion a whoosah moment. BMW’s newest iDrive system, the Live Cockpit Pro package, a vibrant 14.9-inch infotainment screen, Apple and Android connectivity, and voice-activated virtual assistant deliver the necessary technology to make the conductor secure with any situation that surfaces. The diamond-quilted backseat aka M Lounge gets a spacious row complete with ambient lighting, custom pillows, and temperature controls to combat inclement weather. All ears get treated to the optional, state-of-the-art Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System serving as a personal concert for any song played ($3,400). Note that there is a Harman Kardon sound system that comes “standard” which provides stellar sound, as well.

While luxury, comfort and entertainment are obvious standouts, the XM shows the environment some love, too. As a plug-in hybrid, it delivers an impressive 46 MPG fuel economy, making it an eco-friendly choice without compromising performance.

In terms of convenience and safety, the XM offers adaptive LED headlights, Active Driving Assistant Professional, rain-sensing windshield wipers, active blindspot detection, lane departure warning, surround view cameras with 3D, and numerous other applications which come standard. Plus, with a fast charger and flexible charging options thanks to a front-fender charging point, you can hit the road swiftly without worrying about running out of power. BMW does a decent job combatting buyer’s remorse as well, with their Ultimate Care 3-year/36,000 miles maintenance program.

Simply stated, the 2023 Genesis G90 AWD 3.5T E-Supercharger sedan is the epitome of luxury meets power on four wheels. Completely redesigned in 2023, it’s a stunner inside and out.

Exterior eye candy comes with a sloping front for aerodynamic perfection, road-gripping 21-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof for stargazing, opulent mesh grille, and the futuristic lighting Genesis is renowned for in the front and rear.

Pampering passengers is obviously a priority in the G90. The Nappa leather seating surfaces are plush, complete with ventilation to combat any inclement weather Mother Nature has in store. The rear seating blesses passengers with soft headrests and enough room to kick back with footrests chauffeur style. The 12.3-inch HD screen serves as a vibrant command center, providing optimal views of everything from navigation to entertainment. Addressing the latter, the Bang & Olufsen 3D premium audio system is truly theateresque. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity and multiple USB ports are also interior gems.

Flexing some serious muscle, the “Supercharger” label is justified by the 3.5 twin-turbocharged V6 with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system that bench presses 409 horsepower and 405 pound-feet of torque for rocket-like acceleration. Enhanced by an 8-speed automatic transmission that shifts seamlessly, the G90 still provides a cloud-like ride thanks to state-of-the-art suspension and enhanced maneuverability with all-wheel drive.

The G90 is loaded with mind easing features including lane-keeping assist, intelligent speed limit assist to prevent traffic violations on family excursions, and a rear-view camera with dynamic guidelines for optimal visibility. One of the most popular conversation starters this automobile possesses is standing outside of the car while it parks itself in tight spaces thanks to the remote smart parking assist. The spacious trunk automatically opens when the fob is near, which is a great feature when hands are full with groceries and cargo.

With its cutting-edge tech, aggressive engine, curvaceous frame, and opulent interior, the G90 leaves pretty much nothing to be desired. Showing Genesis’ confidence in quality, there is also a five-year/60,000-mile basic warranty and a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty.

All in all, this automobile is the truth.

Fuel Economy: 17 city/24 highway/20 combined.

Price: $101,295
