What is the position you are running for? *
Atlanta City Council District 6
Why are you running for office? *
Crime stats are moving in the wrong direction, basic city service delivery is unreliable, our infrastructure is in disrepair, and economic inequity and housing affordability are worsening. I am running because my previous City Council service and deep relationships through the district make me the ideal person to champion these issues at City Hall.
In what ways do you believe your experience will assist you in your position, if elected? *
Having served as the District 6 representative from 2010-18, I know what the job entails and have proven I can handle the responsibilities successfully. My track record shows I am a hard-working, ethical public servant with experience to get things moving forward and leadership to provide checks and balances to restore trust in city government.
Why are you the best candidate for this position? *
I am the only candidate with City Council experience. I understand how City Hall operates and have relationships to forge real solutions to our challenges.
What do you think your constituents need the most? *
District 6 needs the city to deliver on its responsibilities to its stakeholders on public safety, city services, infrastructure, etc., and city leadership that is responsive and focused on solutions.
What would you do differently than the predecessor in the position/office you’re running for? *
I commend Councilmember Ide for leading us through the COVID pandemic. One thing I will aim to do is regularly convene neighborhood/community leaders (associations, NPUs, and other stakeholders) to discuss issues of common interest. These might be concerns and challenges facing the district, feedback on legislation being considered by City Council, or simply opportunities for collaboration.
What are the three (legislative) issues you will address, if elected? *
(1) Renew Atlanta/TSPLOST projects financial and timeline reconciliation;
(2) Alcohol code revision to better protect communities; and
(3) Transportation/Transit Project acceleration
If elected, what is your plan of action the first 100 days in office? *
– Review City’s mid-year finances and departmental performance metrics to identify gaps in service delivery and develop a plan to prioritize and implement corrective measures – Attend District 6 neighborhood/NPU meetings to establish lines of communication and convene first neighborhood stakeholder meeting – Meet with the new Mayor and Council President to discuss issues of mutual concern
